Blog #5: Looking to get personal

I say this loud and proud! I am looking forward to this assignment! I strongly believe this assignment will be great for all of us. I am looking forward to having that feeling of “freedom,” by this I mean in writing exactly what I want, or in this case we want. I don’t see any limit to my words or my emotions. We will be able to put it all out there. Right? Is it weird that I’m excited simply because I have an idea of certain pictures I would like to be using. If I chose the topic I think I have set my mind on, then this essay will be extremely personal to me because I lived through it, and it haunts me to this day.
Getting personal is. . . personal. When it comes to getting personal, one can decide with who, when , and where they feel comfortable. I am ready to share a bit of my personal life with you, so let's get comfortable.
My 1st possible topic
One of my top ideas for this assignment regards the topic of  Immigration. What would even be the correct question? How has Immigration affected my life? How has Immigrigation NOT affected my life? How did Immigration ruin my life? Why does Immigration even exist? There is no right question. At least not one I can pick right now. When I was a little girl, I felt as if I had lost it all, because I lost one person. Since then it has all been a domino effect, everything in my life has been affected.

My 2nd possible topic
Another idea I took in consideration for this assignment was that of Racism. Why is Racism wrong? Why is it important to get rid of Racism? Or How has Racism negatively impacted not only these times, but past times?, or even better: Does Racism still exist? The reason I considered this topic is because I feel that there is still so much racism and discrimination. Just because we don't openly see it as it was seen before, does not mean it is gone. Even if the smallest part of it exists somewhere out there, the point is it still exists. I want to stress the importance of the effects it causes in every way to individuals who endure the hurdles put there by little minded people.

Even though I put these two topics separately I believe they are intertwined with each other. I had the perfect sentence inserted here, but I decided to save it for my actual assignment! I didn’t want to use it twice. I don’t want to give too much, but I don’t want to leave you guys completely empty with my ideas. If I look at all the possible topics I brainstormed, I had a lot of ideas which matched perfectly with another, so work with me on this because you & I are both figuring it out.
My 3rd possible topic
Here we go, I will be sharing one more topic, this one being that of Travel. My personal writing would see How an individual's life can benefit from traveling? Growing up feeling alone in all possible ways, traveling to the place I called home was the greatest thing to me. Ever. Now that I am older, I can’t function without getting on a plane and going back to my family. I make this happen at least once a year, but I am looking forward to making it more than a one time/year habit. My life has benefitted in every single way, and having my head in the clouds (literally) is the reason why. I never want to lose all I have benefitted from stepping out of the circle I have made for myself (not a good thing). Traveling gives you a bit of everything, you get new perspectives, opinions, you grow. Mentally, emotionally, and physically. I want to continue exploring and to hopefully see the whole world. All these things to do, see, learn, and experience. . .Where is my plane?

  1. Hi Lexi,
I just want to start by saying how much I enjoyed reading your blog post! I think you have some interesting topics that you could give your readers a unique perspective on. I especially like the question “how did immigration ruin my life?” I feel like it is the type of topic that people would really like to read about to gain a deeper understanding of the issues associated with immigration from a new perspective. Here are some questions for you: How has immigration made you into the person you are today? What instance in your life were the issues with immigraiton most prevalent? Have you overcome these issues? Do you still have challenges to overcome? I can’t wait to see what you end up doing for your project!

  2. Hi Leslie,

I think you picked very interesting topics. Immigration and racism are very intertwined with one another, and I liked how you picked those two because they are VERY controversial topics especially here in the United States. I feel like with those two you can get really personal and give readers insight on your experience with them. There also is a large audience you can appeal to with immigration and racism because there are many people who have dealt with one or the other, if not both, in their life. I think you have the potential to create a very powerful and moving essay!
